After 93 parties, and 7 years of eclectic nonsense, Strange Daze are proud to announce news of our Birthday party whilst simultaneously ushering in a new residency at one of Manchester’s most plush venues.
We will for a change, be focusing on the Acid Trance and Techno music that inspired us to start up SDSS and do our early outdoor events and then to evolve the idea into what we now do. The back room wiull as ever has a selection of classic House, DnB, Breaks and all things Strange!!!
MAIN ROOM:
EAT STATIC (DJ Set – Mesmobeat Recs/Planet Dog): http://www.myspace.com/eatstaticspace
Eat Static were formed in 1989 by Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton, then drummer and synth player respectively for the band Ozric Tentacles. They were joined by Steve Everitt, a library musician and occasional Ozric member. The band made a name for themselves on the Megadog/‘live’ techno scene of the early ‘90s, playing alongside the likes of Orbital, Underworld and Aphex Twin. Since then they have had an array of releases, the list of which is as long as your arm.
Merv now joins us to play a selection of their music so expect a heady mix of techno trance and dancefloor classics, played in his memorable acid drenched style!
OOOD (Colin - DJ/Producer Set. Phantasm Recs, Matsuri, Flying Rhino): http://www.myspace.com/oood
Formed in Oxford in 1994, in the last 16 years, the band has performed either live or as DJs across the world, including Japan, Europe, South Africa, India, East Asia, Russia, Israel and the USA. Prior to the band’s formation, Colin Bennun had already released a solo track under the name Faction on Phantasm Records first compilation “Hard Trance and Psychedelic Techno”, an album which has been referred to as “a reference for the start of the goa movement”. The band have also had releases on several major labels, including Matsuri and Flying Rhino. For our birthday and 5 years since the Strange Stage was last visited by OOOD expect a mix of their classic material.
BEZ 23 (Peak Records / Kulu): http://www.myspace.com/bez23dorje
Bez23 started DJing in 1992, and soon after became involved in the free party scene since the early ‘90s promoting trance, then Goa, then Psytrance parties. Bez23 currently organises the chill-space for Bradford night ‘Kulu’ where he is also a psytrance resident. In 2008 he joined the stable at Peak Records, and has since played more events than are listable, across the whole of the UK.
A regular at Strange Daze since the very beginning, Bez has destroyed many a dancefloor with his full on bonkers style psy, and given many a chill out room his patented ‘‘multiple mongasms”. For this event, expect a mix of early classics from across the trance spectrum.
FULL LOTUS (Ketuh Records / PsyMusic.co.uk): http://www.myspace.com/full_lotus
DJing psychedelic music across the board since 1989, few have more man hours behind the decks than Full Lotus. Playing everything from original psychedelia to ‘full on / dark psy’, FL has played everywhere from Romania, India, Austria to many of UKs leading events including Glade Festival. Nowadays he can be heard representing Ketuh Records and on his weekly radio show on Psymusic, playing everything from Goa to current face-melters. For our birthday event, expect a lean more towards the tunes that originally inspired us all.
DILL ZOGG (Planet Zogg / Karma Sound System): http://www.myspace.com/dillzogg
Resident DJ and co-founder of Sheffield underground parties “Planet Zogg” and “Karma sound system”. In the last decade, Dill has played all over the world, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, India and Czech pepublic. Including two Lunar eclipse parties in the Indian Himalaya and Patagonia. From the beaches of kerela in South India to the pacific coast in Chile. In true Plent Zogg style, expect Dill to join the dots between Trance and Techno… Resistance is Futile.
NANOOK (Strange Daze / Arkona Creation Records): http://www.myspace.com/nanookstrange/
Nanook started DJing in 1997, inspired by the Techno and progressive sounds coming from his Native Manchester. Shorlty after, he discovered acidic dance music in all it’s forms. Being Strange Daze honcho, it makes sense that for our 7th Birthday celebration, he plays a selection of music that inspired our early outdoor parties. Expect acid music in the vein of Superstition Recs, R&S Recs and from artists such as Humate, Rabbit in the Moon and Azid Force, all played in their original 12” format.
SECOND ROOM:
CUBAN PETE (ex Gods Kitchen / Strange Daze )
To those that followed the early 90s House scene across super clubs such as Gods Kitchen, Cuban Pete will be a familiar name. This turntablaist maestro has rocked more than a few dancefloors with his quality selection of latino rhythms and jackin’ House beats. Soulful music for the 4 to the floor connoisseur.
SEYE (Frisky / Strange Daze)
Seye has been playing amongst the largest names in Dance for well over a decade now. Having shared a booth with names as varied as CJ Mackintosh, Jazzy M and Goldie, guaranteed he knows how to select and mix the finest in dancefloor stormers. Expect a set of classic house, as well as funky beats with a huge dollop of strangeness.
MEGANESH (O’hana Sound System)
The O’hana lads have been active in the North of the UK for over a decade. If you’ve been to a festival in the north, chances are you’ve heard one of their sound systems. They’ve also been credited as rocking one of the first UK Dubstep radio shows. Expect a FULL retrospective of classic Dubstep, from the crew’s head honcho.
E: DRIVE (Uberwang / Strange Daze)
Dons of urban mash-up mixing, these gentlemen really know how to put on a show. Expect the most unlikelly mix of dancefloor blazing ‘breaks’ and DnB, mixed alongside soul, disco and funk classics.
