DD/MM/YYYY (pronounced Day Month Year) are a Canadian experimental indie band from Toronto, Canada. They are known for their abstract music, which involves the use of unconventional instruments and combinations thereof, steadily changing time signatures and rotating member roles.
The band is formed from ex-members of Toronto bands Plant the Bomb, The Viking Club and The Newfound Interest in Connecticut.
The nature of DD/MM/YYYY’s music is explained as a mess of spastic, specially challenged art rock with jagged, diamondback guitars, ‘80s video game synthesizers, and drums that roll with all the punches of the discordant dreamy vocals and self-described as “always changing and always moving”. They have toured steadily in support of all of their releases, having covered the USA and Canada many times over.
This last North American tour (May - June 2008) included many dates with Baltimore’s Video Hippos and Toronto’s Crystal Castles. They have toured Europe, raising eyebrows in Japan but have yet to play in Asia.
They performed at 2007’s Virgin Festival, which was headlined by acts such as Björk and The Smashing Pumpkins.
DD/MM/YYYY released Black Square in Canada on March 17, 2009, to be released in US on IMPOSE Records.
