If you’ve an agent then ask them to get in touch. If you are unsigned then first off get some of your music over to Jay, Ciaran or Luke ideally by email with a link to music up at Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Myspace, Last FM or online elsewhere and please make certain you include a contact phone number. We’ll aim to get back to you as soon as possible and if we like what we hear we’ll look towards booking you for a show.
It’s worth remembering that a lion’s share of the shows coming through the venue feature touring bands with support attached already and sometimes multiple support acts, that said there are occasionally opening slots on those bills and we are always pushing to get bands we like opening up. Remember, the agent and management of the headline band may want to check out any act we want to add to the bill before we go any further.
Once your band is on the bill we’ll fire over all relevant show details and the venue spec etc. Absolutely shout if there’s anything you need clarifying of course.
With regards to payment we’ll arrange for your fans to get in cheaper than the full advance cost so they aren’t being hit with a high ticket price. We’ll talk to you about what method suits you best - we can hold a list you’ve drawn up on the door, give you flyers to pass out that get folk in cheaper or tickets to sell - it’s up to you. We’d much rather you used the method that you were most comfortable with and that appeals to your fanbase. You’ll be paid on the night based on the number of fans over the box office and absolutely won’t be penalised or asked for any money from us.
We’ll aim to arrange a drum kit share where possible so your drummer, if you have one need only bring kick pedal, snare, cymbals and stool along.
By all means, though with several provisos. i.e. whether the date is free in the diary, what kind of show you want to put on etc. We are happy to hire out the venue any night of the week but hire costs may vary depending on opening times, staff numbers etc. Get in touch with Jay for further info & costings but it’s good to have some sort of proposal to email over first including who you are planning on booking, any events you’ve worked on previously and the deal you will be offering any unsigned bands.
As much as possible. When canceling a show we do expect at the very least 14 days notice & a realistic reason even if you are making one up.
Absolutely, one of our superb engineers will steer your engineer in the right direction, answer questions & probably have one of those techy conversations in binary. Or something.
Not bad. The best two places to locally park are…
STEVENSON SQUARE: A few blocks away off Oldham Street where there are single yellow lines so good after 6pm and all day Sundays.
ARNDALE CARPARK: Diagonally opposite The Ruby Lounge front door, open round the clock & secure.
Yes & no. Fly posting on street furniture, buildings & pretty much everywhere is illegal. Fines are huge so should we receive any complaints about a band or promoter from officialdom it will result in refusal of further bookings & their details being passed onto Manchester City Council. That said, we have a team of Baker Street Irregulars who can put posters in legitimate places, shops, takeaways etc so absolutely ask Jay about how to get this done. If you are planning on flyering outside, then again talk to Jay, The Ruby Lounge does have permits that allow promoters & bands to flyer but this isn’t a license to litter. Stray flyers still need to be tidied up etc.
The Ruby lounge is a venue for over 18’s & yes, you will need ID if we think you look young & care-free. We will accept passports & University photo IDs. College ID or anything without your photo won’t be accepted here. Of course ID must have your date of birth on it as it’s pretty darn useless otherwise. If in doubt bring some ID along & bask safe in the knowledge that you look youthful & sprightly (your declining years will be with you sooner than you think).
We have a 4am liquor license. That’s not to say we are open till 4am every night, it depends on the show or club night so check listings or call up for more info.
